SOUP KITCHEN MINISTRY

Recipient Organizations

The Manna House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen

The Open Door Shelter is a 24/7 operation which combines overnight shelter and many other services for the homeless.  The Manna House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen, located within the Open Door Shelter (located at 4 Merritt Street in South Norwalk), serves almost 400 hot meals a day to homeless individuals and families living in poverty in the community. The food pantry provides supplemental groceries to 200 families a month, which are critical to keeping families fed and paying rent each month. The Manna House Soup Kitchen can be reached by phone at 203-866-1057.

Person to Person

Person to Person offers several assistance programs for those in need.  Their Norwalk operation runs a Food Pantry Program on weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm, as well as from 9 am to Noon on many Saturdays.  Person to Person, Norwalk is located at 76 South Main Street in South Norwalk. They can be reached by phone at 203-939-1649 or 203-939-1650.

Our Lady of Fatima parishioners help by providing support in the following ways.

  • Volunteers work at the Manna House Soup Kitchen from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays and Thursdays of each month, preparing and serving meals.
  • Parishioners donate the food to be served at the Manna House Soup Kitchen on the 1st or 3rd Tuesdays of the month.  Each donor is assigned a specific food item(s), which they provide on a monthly basis, for the preparation of that day’s hot meal.  The items are collected at the Parish Center in time for a 10:15 Tuesday morning pick-up.  Some items may be dropped off in the days just prior.
  • Each morning parishioners deliver food donations from the Village Market and Stop and Shop to the Manna House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen and Person to Person.  Drivers participation ranges from a weekly to a monthly basis.
  • Every year, on the 4th Saturday of October, parishioners collect donations at the Wilton Stop and Shop in order to help stock the shelves at the Manna House.  This event is coordinated as part of Make a Difference Day. This year, 2018,  Make a Difference Day is October 27th.
  • Occasionally there is a special non-perishables food drive held at the Parish Center.  This will be announced in the Church Bulletin, as needed.
