Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Deacon Tony

Deacon Tony Conti

Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

  • Mankind has been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of recorded history… And very little has changed over the centuries…
  • But there will be an end time for each of us…
  • The question for us is not when the world will end… For even Jesus tells us that this is only for the Father to know…
  • The question for us is: How will we live our mortal life on this earth, before it ends…?
  • From today’s Psalm… “You will show me the path to life…”
  • As Christians we recognize Jesus as the path to life
  • But we need to take it a step further, because God’s message is more universal than we might imagine…
  • We know that Jesus is the Son of God, and that through the mystery of the Trinity… Jesus is God
  • And from 1st John… We’re told that God is love
  • So when we say that Jesus is the path to life… We are also saying that love is the path to life as well
  • Love is the path that leads all human beings to God… Who is the Creator and Sustainer of all life
  • If love is truly the path to life… Then how will we ever get there if we continue to condemn and judge others?
  • We cannot have a heart like Jesus until we can stop judging...
  • As someone once observed: We are free to judge another’s actions… But we are never free to judge their intentions
  • This is how we begin to see through the eyes of Christ, and this is how mercy becomes possible… by leaving the judgments to God
  • God alone is enough… He doesn’t need our help
  • When we begin to feel qualified to solve the world’s ills… (…and the temptation is great)…
  • We should take pause, and think again…
  • The world is not starving for judgment… The world is starving for love
  • Regardless of our age... We’re all approaching the end times of our lives…
  • And that fact should give us pause, not to lament the shortness of our days… But to make the most of them, by imitating Christ in our daily lives…
  • Believers, non-believers, doubters, and the confused… Can all share in God’s unmerited Grace… All that’s required, is that we each share our faith with them, not by telling them about Christ But by showing them Christ…
